The Day That I Went Home

I’ve thought a lot about this place
and how I’d never come back again

You know that I’ve thought a lot about my past,
and all the times I’ve laughed
at those poor souls who stayed…

Similar vibes to Tina Dico’s Goldhawk Road, for various reasons this week. (Same reasons as Leslie Odom Jr. singingOur troubles won’t disappear/Just ‘cause we don’t live as near” brought me to tears.)

I loved this album. I tried very hard to get a copy of it—again, this was before iTunes Store and Spotify and all the options that give us the song even if we whistle the melody of it. I hunted down the band, the song, the album; I chased eBay listings and paid exorbitant shipping fees to get it from Japan.

I fought for it. And I was pleasantly surprised by more than half the album.

They were apparently a big hit in Japan, albeit being relatively unknown in North America and even less so in Europe.

They also sound quite smooth live, apparently.

I used to listen to The Day I Went Home when I was afraid of going back home and being stuck there. I managed to make it out physically, but part of me is still stuck there, and still struggles every day.

Old sky can you keep a secret,
years from now we’ll laugh about
the day that I went home again
