I was a fan.
Cute girls that could sing and drum and play the bass like The Like did; are you kidding me? I had no choice, of course I was a fan!
Their first album Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking? was brilliant. Their earlier demos that got me hooked on the band were also not half bad.
Someone says wish you were here? I’ve got The Like playing in my mind.
Someone mentions the end of an era? The Like haunts me there too.
I also briefly ran a fansite with a girl named Kirsty. The band’s website was ilikethelike.com, and she had the domain name welikethelike.com, and I thought that alone made it the coolest fansite in the world.
I did slowly lose interest before their last album, which had a slightly different lineup and a much more different sound. But I loved their first EPs, and their first album, and I still enjoy listening to it in full from time to time.
One last little fun-fact: The drummer, Tennessee Thomas, plays the drummer for The Clash at Demonhead in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
