Sia is by far the most popular artist in my Top Artists of All Time list in Last.fm. However, due to all the recent stuff she’s pulled, I almost didn’t include her in my list.
She was a huge part of my identity in my late-teens, though, and it wouldn’t be fair–or complete–if I had left her out.
She wasn’t popular when I fell madly, deeply in love with her music though. I tried really hard to find her albums, her live appearances in radio shows, and any and all music I could get my hands on. Granted, she did find her better voice after her Zero 7 collaborations, and her style evolved and changed with time, but for a long time she was the singer/songwriter with the beautiful voice and amazing (if slightly awkward) lyrics.
And I’m so happy that she’s celebrated for it now. I’m happy that she’s written for/with many other artists, and she’s getting paid. But my Sia was the Colour The Small One/We Are Born/Some People Have Real Problems era Sia, and I’m gonna always love her for it.
