Poets and Pornstars

Partners in Crime

I love Hal Ozsan. I loved his character in Dawson’s Creek and Fallen, I love seeing in him steal the scene in every show he guest stars in, and I loved that he got a lot of attention with his role in the second season of Jessica Jones.

But what I love the most about him is his rock band, Poets and Pornstars.

This is another band that I see as a pure rock band, obvious in their sound and stage. They don’t shy from deep, sentimental ballads, but they clearly loved doing fast paced naughty bits way too much.

Oh also, they got Rachael Leigh Cook to star in their debut video.

Hal mentions that he created the band because it was “what he wanted to hear”. He got an amazing lineup to produce an album, and than another album with a few new songs and improvements to some of the older ones.

They never got big, unfortunately. If they had somehow gone through the doors Nothing More had gone through, things might’ve been different for them too.

Earlier this week when I saw Hal’s photo on Instagram with Sally, the amazing and talented bass player of the band, my heart skipped a beat. I thought they were doing a PoetsX style revival.

But it was news about Sally’s diagnosis of cancer. I felt sad, mad, and overall shitty for a moment—then I snapped out of it and instead decided to recognise how much of a badass m‑‑‑ f‑‑‑ she is, hope for her recovery to be easy and speedy, and just celebrate her rocker self.

So this week is not dedicated to Hal, or the band. It’s for Sally, as a thank you for all the basslines that she has given us, and making me appreciate the instrument of my choice even more.
