Headlights

TV

I can’t even stand to watch the TV
The liars and the killers keep staring at me

Whenever I see a politician on TV, this is the song that gets going in my mind.

If there was place for one high-energy band in my life, I’d probably pick Headlights to be it. One album, would be Killing Them With Kindness.

Headlights is what’s left of Absinthe Blind after the lead singer left, and while they were less edgy with their sound, some songs (like my all-time favourite Lullabies) was quite reminiscent of their previous tunes.

Lullabies never worked when I was young
And they won’t work now.

Their songs sounded loud and cacophonic at first, but when you listen closely, you could hear every single instrument and melody. They were layered, very well balanced, and quite energetic.

Discovering Headlights and Absinthe Blind was a cornerstone for my music-playing hobbies. I learned what shoegaze was and how effects work, how to improve my listening to differentiate instruments and figure out basslines and piano chords by ear, and did so by listening to great lyrics.

A lot of bands I’ve featured on this blog have disbanded quite some time ago, but Headlights is the only one I’m still in denial about.

PS: I thought about featuring Headlights last on this blog, just to go out with this song, but today felt like the right day for the band.
