I really love this album. It opens with whispered words, accompanied by a piano. Then dives straight into this piano-driven ballad.
It’s got heavy hitters, as well as light & upbeat songs.
…and some with very creepy lyrics. 😬
I had the pleasure of watching her live in a small venue in Istanbul, after I’d returned from Sweden—where she is from. I mentioned that one of her songs, Song of July, reminded me of the one summer when I didn’t go back home and stayed in Uppsala.
It wasn’t the best of summers, but it wasn’t unpleasant too. And the song somehow captured that feeling, melody and all, and made me feel how it felt.
(Woof, terrible album art cover. Sorry, can't always find appropriate YouTube videos to embed in posts.)
Her next album was much darker in tone, and the tunes were much more elevated.
I haven’t listened to her latest album yet, but it’s on my list. It’s called “Natten”—Swedish for “At Night”. I expect it to be as dark as “Off to Dance”.
