I loved the first half of 2012. Best year ever. I was in a city that I loved, I had amazing new friends, and it just felt so damn good.
Around April, Missy Higgins released a new album after 5 long years. It was eagerly awaited, and it was truly welcome.
At the same time, Butterfly Boucher also released an album. The lead single from Missy Higgins’ album was co-written by Butterfly, and was featured in both of their albums. So, I had to check it out.
What I loved about this album was the fact that she recorded very raw, very minimal live versions of the whole album with her friends. This one with Missy Higgins is pure joy and mischief—from the bickering and the teasing in the beginning, to the Twilight Zone-esque twist at the end.
Butterfly’s voice is pure power, and combined with the magic of Missy’s harmonies, and whatever the hell that Casio thing is, they create something truly bigger than the sum of its parts.
I truly adore how they get lost in the music and vibe together. I also just realized that I might be harbouring an unashamed desire for these two to release 2 albums worth of music, all in this format.
