Bryde

Flies

Negative thoughts divide and multiply like flies,
Strip away layers to remind you I’m alive.

After Jylt, after Halflight, and after Paper Aeroplanes, Sarah decided to be on her own, and she became Bryde.

I wasn’t a fan of the change at the beginning. If you read previous thoughts, there are bands that I’m happy are still creating, but not in the capacity that I most enjoyed them for certain periods in time. I thought this was it for Sarah’s songs. I was happy that I at least had bunch of albums and a tattoo to remind me of the better days.

I still got the new EPs, of course. But something was lost, something was missing.

Not for long, though… With each new release, Sarah found her groove back—and then some.

It really didn’t take me long to jump back on the fandom-bandwagon, with her release of my favourite music video of her, of all time, with a song that is sooo good that it feels much longer than it is.

The first full-length album brought many, many more surprises. It had familiar rhyme and rhythm, but was more intense. And it was very welcome.

She did not stop releasing singles though—masterpieces that were out of order.

The best of it came in 2020. Sarah literally, single-handedly, all by herself, lifted me out of a depression. Spotify was there to witness it.

Spotify recap of my 2020, saying 'one song helped you get through it all, your top song of the year is Flies'. First stream on May 31, most streams on June 11, and 100th stream on September 6.

The album was a true gift for a true fan. So many good songs, with Flies as its crown.

As with the previous album, the killer song was also a subsequent single.

It’s always a pleasure to listen to Sarah’s songs. I’m so glad she’s a part–the biggest part–of my music library and history, and I cannot wait to hear what more I’ll get to listen to from her in the future.
